LecceMeteo App is the official Android app connected to LecceMeteo.it , designed to bring the most useful weather information for Lecce and the marine conditions of Salento directly to your phone.
It is not just a mobile copy of the website: the app was designed for daily, quick and personal use. Its goal is to help users immediately understand what the weather is like, how the day is expected to evolve, which coast is the best choice, which beaches have the most suitable conditions and whether there are alerts, rain in progress or situations worth keeping an eye on.
What It Offers
The app shows real-time weather data from the LecceMeteo ecosystem, together with hourly and daily forecasts, feels-like temperature, humidity, pressure, wind, daily rainfall, live rain intensity, UV index, air quality, pollen, moon phases, weather comfort, records and alerts.
The main screen is built to provide an immediate reading of the current situation: live conditions, daily trend, individual weather details, hourly charts and practical information that helps users understand not only “what the weather is like”, but also how it may affect everyday activities.
A central part of the app is dedicated to the sea. The Sea section collects beach conditions across Salento, organized between the Adriatic coast, the Ionian coast and the Leuca area. For each location, the app displays information such as sea state, wave height, wind, water temperature, beach score and a qualitative indication of the current conditions. Users can save their favorite beaches, access them more quickly and open a detailed sheet for each location.
The app also includes an interactive beach map, useful for viewing locations and marine conditions in a more immediate way. This helps users orient themselves across the different areas of Salento and choose where to go more easily.
Anonymous Beach Reports
One of the app’s most distinctive features is the live beach reporting system. People who are already on location can send an anonymous report about practical conditions such as jellyfish, red flag, full parking, rough sea, dirty beach, strong wind, calm sea, crystal-clear water, few people or perfect conditions.
Reports remain active only for a limited time and are aggregated by beach and type. If more people confirm the same situation, the app shows a stronger reliability indication. In this way, weather data is enriched with real, practical information from people who are already there.
The system was designed to work without accounts and without registration, keeping the experience simple and privacy-conscious. Anti-spam controls and limitation mechanisms are in place to prevent abuse, duplicates or repeated reports for the same beach.
Notifications and Automations
The app includes a notification system designed to be useful without being invasive. It can send a morning forecast, Civil Protection weather alerts, notifications about the best marine conditions during the beach season, rain start and end alerts, and custom notifications based on thresholds chosen by the user.
The most important alerts remain clearly visible until the critical situation ends. Rain notifications are designed to warn users when the situation actually changes, while custom thresholds allow users to be notified when selected values are exceeded for temperature, UV, wind or wave height.
The app also works in the background to keep data, widgets and notifications up to date, offering a continuous experience even when it is not opened manually.
Widgets, Diary and Personalization
LecceMeteo App includes Android home screen widgets: one dedicated to weather and one dedicated to marine conditions. The widgets allow users to quickly check temperature, current conditions, wind, humidity, sea state, waves and the suggested best coast.
The app also includes a personal weather diary. This section keeps track of app usage, daily streak, beaches viewed, shares, observed weather records and unlocked badges. The gamification is designed to make the experience more personal and engaging, without turning the app into something intrusive.
There are several badges linked to different behaviors and situations: first openings, beach consultation, frequent use, rain checks, shares, extreme conditions, seasonal openings, coast exploration and submitted reports.
The app supports light and dark theme, Italian and English language, Celsius/Fahrenheit units, configurable haptic feedback, initial onboarding and visual loading states designed to make the interface feel smoother while data is being updated.
Sharing
From the app, users can share an automatically generated weather card as an image. The card summarizes the main conditions visually, including temperature, weather description, wind, humidity, UV, pressure, rain, air quality, the trend for the next few hours, sunrise and sunset, possible alerts and a marine summary.
This feature turns weather data into ready-to-send or ready-to-post content, while keeping a visual style consistent with the LecceMeteo identity.
App Structure
The app was developed as a native Android application, with a modern interface organized into four main areas: Home, Sea, Map and More.
Home collects live weather and forecasts, the Sea section is dedicated to beaches and Salento’s coasts, the Map provides a geographic view of the locations, while the More section contains settings, notifications, the weather diary, preferences and information about the app.
Behind the interface there is an integration work involving weather data, marine data, notifications, widgets, user preferences and automatic updates. The goal was to build an app that feels stable, quick to consult and able to transform many different pieces of information into a simple experience for the final user.
Why I Built It
I built LecceMeteo App because the website is perfect for consulting broader data and sections, but a phone requires a different experience: more immediate, more personal and more connected to the current moment.
In Salento, weather is not just about “sun or rain”. Very often, the most important choice is understanding which coast is better, where the sea is calmer, whether the wind affects a beach or whether a location is actually suitable at that moment. The app was born exactly for this reason: to combine weather data, marine conditions, practical information and automations into an everyday tool.
The most interesting part for me was turning LecceMeteo into something that accompanies the user throughout the day: with useful notifications, always-visible widgets, favorite beaches, anonymous reports from the territory and a personal diary that makes the experience closer to real daily use.
Project Status
LecceMeteo App is now available on Google Play. After the testing phase, the app has been officially published and can be downloaded by Android users who want to follow Lecce weather, sea conditions and Salento beaches directly from their phone.
